Cookie Policy
This policy explains what cookies WiserReview uses, where they are set, why, and what choices you have.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website or script when you visit it. They are used to make services work correctly, remember your preferences, and collect analytics data.
WiserReview sets cookies in two distinct contexts: on our own website (wiserreview.com) and, via our pixel widget, on our merchants' storefronts. These are described separately below. Our dashboard (app.wiserreview.com) uses browser localStorage and sessionStorage for session management, not cookies.
2. Cookies on wiserreview.com
The following cookies are set when you visit wiserreview.com (our marketing website).
| Cookie | Type | Purpose | Duration | Set By |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| cf_clearance | Essential | Set by Cloudflare after a bot challenge is passed. Confirms the browser is a legitimate visitor for the duration of the session. | 30 minutes – 24 hours | Cloudflare |
| _ga | Analytics | Google Analytics: distinguishes unique users by assigning a randomly generated number as a client identifier. | 2 years | |
| _gid | Analytics | Google Analytics: stores and updates a unique value for each page visited. | 24 hours | |
| _gat | Analytics | Google Analytics: used to throttle request rate. | 1 minute |
We do not use advertising cookies or sell visitor data to ad networks. Google Analytics is used solely to understand website traffic and improve our content.
3. Dashboard (app.wiserreview.com)
The WiserReview dashboard does not use cookies for authentication or session management. Instead, it uses:
- localStorage: stores your authentication token, account preferences, and workspace configuration. Persists across browser sessions. Cleared on logout.
- sessionStorage: stores your active workspace ID and temporary UI state (e.g., widget preview data). Cleared automatically when the browser tab is closed.
localStorage and sessionStorage are not cookies. They cannot be read by other websites and are not transmitted with HTTP requests. They are described in our Privacy Policy §9.
4. Merchant Storefront Cookies (Widget Pixel)
When a merchant installs the WiserReview pixel widget on their storefront, the widget script sets the following cookies on the merchant's domain(e.g., yourstore.com, not wiserreview.com) when a shopper visits the page.
| Cookie | Type | Purpose | Duration | Domain | SameSite |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WR_UNQ_VID | Functional / Analytics | Assigns a unique visitor ID to the shopper's browser so WiserReview can track widget interactions (views, clicks, review submissions) across sessions without requiring a login. Used for widget analytics and deduplication. | 365 days | Merchant's domain (e.g., yourstore.com) | Lax |
| WR_ACT_ARR | Functional | Stores an array of widget interaction events (e.g., 'widget_viewed', 'review_submitted') for the current visitor. Prevents duplicate event tracking and redundant widget triggers. | 365 days | Merchant's domain | Lax |
| W_LMT_RVW_APP | Essential (anti-abuse) | Rate-limiting flag set after a review is submitted. Prevents the same browser from submitting multiple reviews in a short period. | 24 hours | Merchant's domain (path-scoped) | Strict |
If you are a WiserReview merchant and operate in the EEA, UK, or California, you are responsible for disclosing the WiserReview pixel cookies to your shoppers. You should:
- • Add
WR_UNQ_VIDandWR_ACT_ARRto your cookie consent banner under “Functional” or “Analytics” category - • Add
W_LMT_RVW_APPunder “Essential” or “Security” (no consent required, anti-abuse purpose) - • Reference WiserReview as a sub-processor in your privacy policy and cookie notice

5. How to Control Cookies
Browser Settings
You can view, manage, and delete cookies from your browser settings. Note that blocking essential cookies (like cf_clearance) may prevent certain pages from loading correctly.
Chrome
Settings → Privacy and Security → Cookies
Firefox
Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
Safari
Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
Google Analytics Opt-Out
To opt out of Google Analytics tracking on wiserreview.com, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Pixel Cookies on Merchant Sites
To opt out of WiserReview pixel cookies on a merchant's storefront, use that merchant's cookie consent banner (if present) and decline functional/analytics cookies. You can also delete WR_UNQ_VID and WR_ACT_ARR directly from your browser's cookie manager for that domain.
6. Cookie Consent (EU/UK Visitors)
For visitors from the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, non-essential cookies (analytics) require consent under the ePrivacy Directive and GDPR. The cf_clearance cookie is essential and does not require consent. Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _gid) require consent and are only set where permitted. Your data rights are described in our Privacy Policy §7.
7. Changes to This Policy
We will update this policy when we add, change, or remove cookies. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
