Here’s how I added reviews to a site using a widget tool:
Step 1: Sign up for a free account
Go to app.wiserreview.com/signup and create an account. Free plan handles 100 review imports a month, which is enough for most small businesses.
Step 2: Connect your review sources
From the dashboard, open Integrations. Connect whichever sources you have reviews on:

Method 2: Use a platform’s free native embed
Every major review platform offers a free way to share reviews. None of them gives you a full multi-review widget, but they’re useful when you only need one or two reviews from a single source and don’t want to sign up for a third-party tool.
Best for: Featuring one or two hand-picked reviews on a homepage or landing page with zero budget. Quick proof-of-concept before committing to a tool.
What each platform offers:
- Google Business Profile: Embed a single review via Google Maps. Open Maps, find your business, click Reviews, pick a review, click the three-dot menu, choose Share review, then click the Embed tab and copy the HTML.
- Facebook: Embed a single Facebook post via the post’s three-dot menu, then Embed. Recommendations on a Page can be embedded one at a time.
- Shopify product reviews: Most third-party Shopify review apps (Judge.me, Loox, Yotpo) ship free product page widgets out of the box.
- WooCommerce product reviews: Display automatically on every product page once enabled in WooCommerce → Settings → Products → General.
Step-by-step (using Google’s embed as the example):

- Open Google Maps, search for your business, and click your listing.
- Open the Reviews tab and scroll to the review you want.
- Click the three-dot menu on the review, then Share review.
- In the popup, click Embed and copy the HTML.
- Paste the HTML into a Custom HTML block, Code Block, or Embed element on your site.

What you give up:
- One source per embed. Mixing two sources on the same page needs two embeds (or Method 1).
- Fixed layout. The visual is whatever the platform decides. No restyling.
- No multi-source schema. Star ratings in search results require separate schema markup.
- Most embeds are static. Won’t update if the customer edits their review later.
- No support for video testimonials or direct customer quotes you collected via email.

Method 3: Hand-code the reviews block in HTML
The developer route. Write the reviews directly into your page’s HTML, style them with your own CSS, and add the JSON-LD schema yourself. No third-party tool, no recurring fee, no scripts to load.
Best for: Customer testimonials and hand-picked quotes you have full editorial control over. Developers and designers who want to write the markup themselves. Static sites (Jekyll, Hugo, 11ty, Astro). Sites where loading a third-party script is off the table for performance or privacy reasons. Landing pages with 3-5 hand-picked reviews that don’t change often.
Step 1: Pick the reviews you want to show
Copy 3-5 reviews from wherever they live: a customer email, a tweet, a third-party review platform, a Loom video transcript, a Slack message from a happy customer. Grab the reviewer name, rating, date, and review text. Stick to recent ones so the page doesn’t look stale.
Step 2: Write the HTML block
Drop a section into your page. Each review is a card with a star rating, name, date, and quote. Here’s the markup pattern:

Step 3: Style with CSS

Step 5: Test the schema
Run the page through Google’s Rich Results Test. If schema is valid, your page is eligible for the yellow star snippet in search results.
What you give up:
- No auto-sync. Every new review means editing HTML.
- You maintain the schema yourself. Mistakes break the rich snippet.
- No filtering, sort options, or carousel by default.
- Reviews are static. They don’t pull from any platform automatically.
- Video reviews need separate iframe embeds (YouTube, Loom) on top of this markup.
This method works best for hand-picked testimonials on a landing page. For product reviews that update with every new buyer, or third-party reviews that grow weekly, Method 1 saves hours.
Where to put reviews on your website

Placement determines whether reviews convert. The same review carries different weight depending on where it lives, and certain review types fit specific pages.
- Homepage hero: Aggregate star count plus 1 short quote. “4.9 stars across 800+ reviews” builds trust in the first 3 seconds. Mix third-party reviews and a single video testimonial.
- Product page: 5-10 verified product reviews below the add-to-cart button. Sort by Most Recent and Most Helpful. Photo reviews convert better than text-only.
- Category and collection pages: Aggregate ratings under each product card so shoppers can compare at a glance.
- Cart and checkout pages: One short customer testimonial near the checkout button reduces cart abandonment.
- Pricing page: Customer quotes that map to each tier. Quotes from enterprise customers next to your Enterprise plan, small-business quotes next to Pro.
- Service or about page: Mid-page Wall of Love with reviews from multiple sources, plus a video testimonial for emotional weight.
- Dedicated /reviews page: Full library with source, type, and rating filters. Ranks for branded queries like “yourbrand reviews.”

Those yellow stars next to search results aren’t automatic. They require JSON-LD schema markup that tells search engines how to interpret your reviews.
- The schema types you need: Review for individual reviews, AggregateRating for the overall star average and count, and Product (for product reviews) or LocalBusiness (for service reviews) to wrap them.
- What needs to be present: author name, rating value (e.g. “5”), best rating (usually “5”), and the entity being reviewed (product, service, or business).
- How each method handles it: Method 1 (widget) outputs schema automatically for every review type. Method 2 (platform embeds) doesn’t output schema for your page. Method 3 (hand-coded) requires you to write the JSON-LD yourself.

Common mistakes to avoid

- Hiding reviews in the footer: Visitors who never scroll past the hero never see the reviews. Put at least the aggregate star count above the fold.
- Cherry-picking only 5-star reviews: A perfect 5.0 rating reads as fake. A mix of 4 and 5 star reviews looks more credible.
- Hiding the review count: “4.9 stars” without a count is weak. “4.9 stars across 1,243 reviews” is strong.
- Mixing review types without labels: A product review and a service testimonial say different things. Label each one (“verified buyer,” “customer testimonial,” “third-party review”) so visitors can tell.
- Forgetting schema markup: Without JSON-LD, search engine stars never appear. Method 1 handles this automatically. Method 2 doesn’t. Method 3 requires you to write it yourself.
- Ignoring negative reviews: Don’t hide them. Respond publicly with a clear resolution. A well-handled 1-star review can build more trust than ten 5-star reviews.
