Why shipping zones matter

Distance and customs make one flat answer wrong somewhere: priced for nearby, remote orders lose money; priced for remote, nearby carts see inflated rates and leave. Zones let each geography get rates that are honest for it.

How many zones does a small store need?

Start coarse: domestic, main international markets, rest of world. Split a zone only when its costs genuinely diverge; micro-zoned tables are maintenance debt.

Should delivery estimates vary by zone?

They must: a single sitewide promise is either false for far zones or underselling near ones. Zone-true estimates at checkout prevent the where-is-it tickets later.
