Yotpo vs Rivo comparison cover

Yotpo and Rivo are both pitched at Shopify retention, and they’re built backward from each other. Yotpo starts with reviews and sells loyalty beside them. Rivo starts from loyalty and leaves reviews for a partner app.

Both changed since most comparisons were written: Yotpo shut down its Email and SMS products on December 31, 2025, and Rivo grew from a loyalty app into a customer-accounts platform with wallet passes and paid memberships.

I run WiserReview, so I compete with the review side of this, and I’ll be upfront about that.

Numbers were verified against live pricing pages in August 2026, and this covers both jobs people come here for: picking a platform and switching between them.

What changed for Yotpo and Rivo?

The 2026 versions of both platforms differ from the 2024 versions.

Yotpo shut down Email and SMS

In August 2025, Yotpo announced the sunset of its Email and SMS products to refocus on Reviews and Loyalty. The shutdown was completed on December 31, 2025, with Attentive and Omnisend as official migration partners.

The all-in-one retention pitch is now a two-product pitch, with email flows running through Klaviyo either way.

Rivo became an accounts platform

Rivo expanded past points and referrals into customer accounts: passwordless login, Apple and Google Wallet passes, wishlists, and paid memberships, wired into Shopify checkout through 8+ extensions.

Its homepage now lists brands like Dr. Squatch, HexClad, and Princess Polly among 9,000+ stores, including tiles for merchants who moved over from Yotpo and Stamped. The small loyalty app grew.

What it means for this comparison

Yotpo narrowed, and Rivo deepened, on one platform. The line that decides it hasn’t moved: Rivo is Shopify-only and has no review product. Yotpo is neither of those things.

Yotpo overview: the reviews-plus-loyalty suite

Yotpo homepage

Yotpo launched in 2011 and remains the biggest reviews platform in DTC e-commerce, claiming 400 million+ reviews collected and 25,000+ loyalty programs, with customers like Brooklinen, Steve Madden, and Princess Polly.

It holds a 4.3 on G2 from about 262 reviews and a 4.7 on the Shopify App Store.

What it does well: the combined data layer. Reviews and loyalty share a single customer record, and the loyalty engine built on the 2019 Swell acquisition has the most extensive earning rules and 20+ triggers in the category.

It also runs on BigCommerce and Magento, in addition to Shopify.

Where it stops: the meter and the contracts. Loyalty Pro runs $199 for 500 orders with $0.20 per extra order, photo reviews need the $169+ Reviews tier, and terms trend annual.

It also offers no paid memberships and only about 2 checkout extensions.

My Yotpo pricing breakdown covers the module math.

Ideal fit: multi-platform brands or Shopify stores that want reviews and loyalty from one vendor.

Rivo overview: the Shopify loyalty native

Rivo

Rivo is a Shopify-exclusive retention platform serving 9,000+ stores, including Dr. Squatch, HexClad, Chubbies, and True Classic, and holds a 4.8 rating on the Shopify App Store based on about 1,387 reviews.

What it does well: Shopify depth. Points, VIP tiers, and referrals ship alongside customer accounts, passwordless login, wallet passes, wishlists, and paid memberships, wired into checkout through 8+ extensions.

Pricing stays simple: a free tier up to 200 orders, usage-based Scale from $49, month-to-month terms, and no per-order overage fees. Its own pricing teardowns of Yotpo and LoyaltyLion reveal exactly who it targets.

Where it stops: the walls. Off Shopify it isn’t an option, there’s no reviews product, so social proof lives in a partner app, and unlimited participants plus the accounts features sit on the $499 Plus tier.

Ideal fit: Shopify and Shopify Plus DTC brands building loyalty, memberships, and modern accounts.

WiserReview overview: the review layer beside either

WiserReview homepage, a product review tool that works across Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace and Ecwid

WiserReview is my product, so judge this section accordingly. It exists for the exact gap this comparison exposes: Rivo doesn’t do reviews, and Yotpo charges suite prices for them.

What it does: collects reviews by email, SMS, WhatsApp, and QR code against your order data, and displays them in 18+ widgets with photo and video on every plan.

Rich snippets and Google seller ratings sync from $9, AI moderation screens every review before it publishes, and it pairs with any loyalty tool because it stays in its lane.

WiserReview review management dashboard

It runs on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, WordPress, Webflow, Magento, PrestaShop, and headless builds: $9 for 1,000 requests per month, $19 for 3,000, and $31 for 5,000, with the full AI suite.

Where it stops: no loyalty program beyond a $6 referral add-on, no customer accounts, and no free plan, just a 7-day trial. The loyalty half of this comparison stays with Rivo or Yotpo.

Ideal fit: stores pairing a dedicated loyalty tool with a dedicated review layer, rather than buying a suite.

Loyalty head-to-head: rules versus platform depth

If loyalty is why you’re here, the split is clean.

Yotpo Loyalty wins on rule depth: the Swell-built engine carries 20+ triggers, rolling VIP qualification, and the tightest link between review activity and points, because reviews live in the same suite.

Rivo wins on platform depth: 8+ checkout extensions, customer accounts, wallet passes, and paid memberships that Yotpo doesn’t offer at all, with month-to-month terms and no overage line items.

The stack alternative: Rivo’s Scale at $49 plus WiserReview at $9 runs $58 a month for loyalty, accounts, and reviews. Yotpo’s Reviews plus Loyalty pairing starts around $368. Same three jobs, a $310 gap.

Winner: Yotpo for rule complexity, Rivo for Shopify-native breadth, the stack for the bill. The flat-tier route gets its own breakdown in my Smile.io vs Yotpo comparison.

Switching between Rivo and Yotpo Loyalty

A third of the people landing on this page are migrating, not choosing, so here’s the honest version, in both directions.

Moving from Rivo to Yotpo Loyalty

Export customer and points balances from Rivo as CSV through the dashboard or support. Yotpo imports customers and point balances by CSV, and that’s where the clean part ends.

VIP tiers are rebuilt by hand against Yotpo’s rules, referral links regenerate from scratch, and earning history doesn’t transfer, so streak-style perks reset. Plan a parallel-run week, announce the move to members, and reconcile balances before switching the widget.

Moving from Yotpo to Rivo

The same shape in reverse, and Rivo’s team runs white-glove migrations on demo calls; its homepage shows Dr. Squatch and Kitsch as brands that moved off Yotpo and Stamped. Points travel by CSV either way. Program logic never does.

What survives and what doesn’t

Survives: customer records, point balances, tier names you rebuild. Doesn’t: earning history, streaks, active referral links, and any rule your new platform structures differently.

Budget the rebuild, not just the export. And if the migration turns into a shopping trip, my LoyaltyLion alternatives roundup maps the wider loyalty field.

Pricing compared: overage meters versus usage tiers

Yotpo meters orders and charges overage fees on an annual basis. Rivo meters orders through usage tiers, month to month. WiserReview meters review requests. Verified in August 2026.

Yotpo pricing

Plan Cost What you get
Loyalty Free $0 About 100 orders/month, basic points
Loyalty Pro $199/mo 500 orders, $0.20 per extra order, core VIP rules
Loyalty Premium $599/mo and up Advanced analytics, cohorts, higher volume
Reviews (separate) $15 to $379/mo Review collection, widgets, photo, and video at $169+

Loyalty bills separately from Reviews; contracts trend annually, and a 1,000-order month on Pro adds $100 in overage alone. Reviews plus Loyalty realistically starts around $368 a month.

Rivo pricing

Plan Cost What you get
Free $0 Up to 200 orders/month, core points and referrals
Scale $49 to $499/mo Usage-based from 200 to 2,500 orders, 250K participants, VIP tiers
Plus $499/mo Unlimited participants, customer accounts, wallet passes, wishlists, memberships
Enterprise Custom High volume, white-glove onboarding, CSM

Month-to-month billing, a 7-day trial on paid plans, and no per-order overage fees: volume moves you between usage tiers instead of adding line items.

WiserReview pricing

Plan Cost What’s included
Starter $9/mo 1,000 review requests, photo and video, widgets, rich snippets, seller ratings
Pro $19/mo 3,000 requests, unlimited published reviews, more video, team seats
Pro + AI $31/mo 5,000 requests, AI replies, sentiment, summaries, translation

Billed by review requests sent; month-to-month with no contract; yearly billing takes 3 months off. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.

The worked example at 1,000 orders a month: Yotpo Loyalty Pro runs $199 plus $100 in overage, before Reviews. Rivo’s Scale tier covers it within $49-$499, with no overage line.

The Rivo-plus-WiserReview stack covers loyalty and reviews for about $58 to $80.

Who should pick which platform?

Platform commitment and vendor count decide it: Shopify-native loyalty points to Rivo, one-vendor suites to Yotpo, and the stack to WiserReview plus either.

Yotpo is right for

  1. Multi-platform brands. BigCommerce and Magento stores can’t run Rivo at all.
  2. One-vendor suite buyers. Reviews and loyalty on a single customer record, one invoice, one support queue.
  3. Rule-heavy loyalty programs. The deepest earning logic and VIP triggers in the category.

Rivo is right for

  1. Shopify and Shopify Plus DTC brands. The 8+ checkout extensions and account features exist only there.
  2. Memberships and modern accounts. Paid memberships, passwordless login, and wallet passes that Yotpo doesn’t sell.
  3. Month-to-month buyers. No annual contracts, no overage fees, a free tier up to 200 orders.

WiserReview is right for

  1. Rivo stores are adding reviews. The layer Rivo skips from $9, pairing with its loyalty instead of replacing it.
  2. Stores leaving the suite. Reviews at $9-$31 free up the loyalty budget for the tool you prefer.
  3. Any-platform builds. Ten platforms and headless, wherever the store goes next.

Complete the stack for $19, not $199

Wrap up: pick one, or switch clean

Two questions settle the pick: Is your store Shopify-only, and do you want reviews from the same vendor as your loyalty program?

Shopify-committed with loyalty, memberships, and accounts as the goal: Rivo, free up to 200 orders and $49+ after. Multi-platform, or one vendor for reviews and loyalty: Yotpo, budgeting $199+ for Loyalty and $169+ for photo reviews.

Either way, the review layer doesn’t have to come from the suite: WiserReview runs alongside Rivo or after Yotpo, starting at $9, on 10 platforms.

And if you’re switching rather than picking, export the points, rebuild the rules, run the two in parallel for a week, and keep the customer records cleaner than the old program left them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this topic

Rivo for Shopify-committed brands: points, VIP tiers, referrals, memberships, and customer accounts from a free 200-order tier, then $49-$499 month to month with no overage fees. Yotpo Loyalty for multi-platform brands or the deepest rule engine, at $199+ with $0.20 per-order overage. Pair either with WiserReview for reviews from $9.
Export customers and point balances from Rivo as CSV, then import both into Yotpo Loyalty. VIP tiers rebuild by hand, referral links regenerate, and earning history and streaks don't transfer. Run both programs in parallel for about a week and reconcile balances before switching the storefront widget.
No. Rivo covers loyalty, referrals, memberships, and customer accounts, and leaves product reviews to partner apps. Rivo stores typically pair it with a dedicated review tool like WiserReview, which adds photo, video, and Google stars from $9 a month.
Rivo has a free plan up to 200 monthly orders, a usage-based Scale tier from $49 to $499 covering 200-2,500 orders with 250K loyalty participants, and Plus at $499 for unlimited participants plus accounts features. Billing is month to month with a 7-day trial and no per-order overage fees.
Yes. Yotpo sunset both on December 31, 2025 to focus on Reviews and Loyalty, naming Attentive and Omnisend as official migration partners.
It depends on the wall you've hit: Yotpo Loyalty for multi-platform stores or deeper earning rules, Smile.io for a simpler flat-tier ladder, LoyaltyLion for agency-heavy programs. If the gap is reviews rather than loyalty, adding WiserReview beside Rivo usually beats replacing it.
