Review Schema
Review schema is structured data added to a page that lets search engines understand its rating, so star ratings can appear directly in search results.
What review schema is
Review schema is a piece of structured data, written in a format search engines read, that describes a review or aggregate rating on a page. It tells Google the rating value, how many reviews it is based on, and what is being rated. With it in place, Google can show your stars as a rich result under the listing.
Why review schema matters
Those stars in search results are one of the few ways to stand out on a page of blue links. They raise click-through without changing your ranking position. Schema is also how AI assistants and shopping surfaces read your ratings, so it is increasingly the difference between being surfaced and being skipped.
How it works
- Add Product, Review, or AggregateRating structured data to the page
- Populate it from real, on-page reviews, never invented ratings
- Validate it, then let Google recrawl the page
Google only shows review rich results when the rating reflects genuine reviews visible on the same page. Marking up ratings that are not really there breaches its guidelines.
Frequently asked questions
Does review schema improve rankings?
Not directly. It makes your listing more prominent and clickable, which can lift traffic, but it is not a ranking factor on its own.
Can I add schema for reviews from other sites?
Only review content that is present on your page qualifies. Self-serving markup for ratings not shown on the page can trigger a manual action.
