Verified Review
A verified review is a rating or written review confirmed to come from a genuine, documented purchase of the product, rather than an anonymous or unconfirmed submission.
What a verified review is
A verified review carries a badge, usually “Verified Buyer” or “Verified Purchase”, shown after the review platform matches the reviewer to a real order. It is the difference between “someone said this” and “a real customer who paid for this said this.”
Why verified reviews matter
Shoppers have learned to be skeptical of reviews, and fake or planted reviews are a real problem online. A verified badge answers that skepticism directly: it signals the feedback came from a paying customer. That is why verified reviews tend to carry more weight in a buying decision, and why Google’s review policies are built around authenticity. For a store, a wall of verified reviews lowers purchase risk far more than the same reviews shown without it.
How review verification works
The platform confirms the reviewer against order data before the review goes live:
- Order ID or receipt matching against your store’s records
- A post-purchase review request sent only to confirmed buyers
- Reviews left while logged in to the account that made the purchase
Submissions that cannot be matched to an order are shown as unverified, or held for moderation.
Frequently asked questions
Are verified reviews more trustworthy?
They signal that a real, paying customer left the feedback, so shoppers tend to trust them more than anonymous ones. They do not guarantee a review is positive, only that the purchase was genuine.
Can a merchant edit or remove a verified review?
Merchants can respond to reviews and flag ones that break policy, but editing a customer’s verified review undermines the trust the badge represents, and can breach review-platform and Google guidelines.
What is the difference between a verified buyer and a verified purchase?
In practice they mean the same thing: the reviewer’s purchase was confirmed. Different platforms just use different labels.
