Set Up Customer Referrals in Shopify

Turn your customers into brand advocates with WiserReview’s Shopify referral program. Reward existing customers for referring friends and automatically offer discounts to new customers when they shop through referral links.

How Referrals Work

1. A customer receives a referral link from your store.
2. The customer shares the link with friends and family.
3. A friend visits your Shopify store using the referral link.
4. WiserReview validates the referral code.
5. The friend completes a qualifying purchase.
6. The referral is tracked automatically.
7. The original customer receives their reward.

No manual coupon creation or referral tracking is required.

Enable Referrals in WiserReview

1. Open WiserNotify Reviews from your Shopify Admin.
2. Navigate to Referrals.
3. Turn on the Referral Widget.
4. Configure:
   • Friend Reward
   • Referral Reward
   • Discount Type
   • Reward Conditions
5. Save your settings.

Once enabled, customers can start sharing referral links and earning rewards.

Available Referral Widgets

WiserReview provides two referral widgets for Shopify.

On-Site Referral Widget

The On-Site Referral Widget displays throughout your store and allows visitors to access and share their referral link at any time.

This widget is ideal for:

• Product pages
• Collection pages
• Homepage
• Customer account pages

Customers can easily copy and share their referral links directly from your storefront.

Post Purchase Referral Widget

The Post Purchase Referral Widget appears after a successful order and encourages customers to refer friends immediately after checkout.

This widget helps capture customers when purchase satisfaction is highest, significantly improving referral participation.

The customer’s referral information is automatically generated and ready to share.

Install the On-Site Referral Widget

Step 1: Open Widget Settings

1. Go to WiserNotify Reviews → Referrals.
2. Under Referral Settings, locate On Site.
3. Click Configure.

Step 2: Enable App Embed

1. Click Enable App.
2. Shopify Theme Editor will open.
3. Enable the WiserReview App Embed.
4. Click Save in the top-right corner.

Step 3: Add the Widget

1. Return to WiserReview.
2. Click Embed On Site.
3. Choose where you want the referral widget to appear.
4. Drag and drop the widget into the desired location.
5. Save your changes.

The referral widget will now be visible on your storefront.

Install the Post Purchase Referral Widget

Step 1: Open Widget Settings

1. Go to WiserNotify Reviews → Referrals.
2. Locate Post Purchase.
3. Click Configure.

Step 2: Enable App Embed

1. Click Enable App.
2. Enable the WiserReview App Extension.
3. Save your changes.

Step 3: Add Post Purchase Widget

1. Click Embed Post Purchase.
2. Shopify Checkout Editor will open.
3. Select the position where you want the referral section to appear.
4. Save the checkout configuration.

The referral widget will now display after customers complete their purchases.

Reward Attribution

After a qualifying order is completed:

1. Shopify sends order information to WiserReview.
2. WiserReview verifies referral eligibility.
3. The referral conversion is recorded.
4. Rewards are issued automatically.
5. Referral analytics are updated.

Invalid, expired, or duplicate referrals are automatically ignored.
