Yotpo vs Klaviyo in 2026: I use both (here’s why)

Here’s the update most people haven’t caught yet: Yotpo and Klaviyo aren’t really competitors anymore.

In August 2025, Yotpo announced it was killing its native Email and SMS products. The shutdown finished on December 31, 2025.

That’s not a rumor; it’s in their CEO’s own statement and covered by Ecommerce North America. Yotpo now focuses only on Reviews, Loyalty, and Referrals. Klaviyo still owns email and SMS for ecommerce.

Almost every brand I talk to still asks, “Yotpo or Klaviyo?” like it’s 2024. It isn’t.

The honest answer in 2026 is closer to “pick Klaviyo for messaging, pick Yotpo for reviews and loyalty, and yes, most serious brands run both.”

Let me show you why, with real pricing, the features that actually matter, and where I’d put my money if I were starting fresh.

The big 2026 update: Yotpo exited email and SMS

The big 2026 update: Yotpo exited email and SMS

On August 5, 2025, Yotpo CEO Tomer Tagrin sent a message to merchants announcing that Email and SMS would sunset by the end of 2025.

Around 200 employees were laid off. Attentive became the preferred migration partner for enterprise accounts.

Omnisend handled the self-serve brands. Klaviyo offered to price-match Yotpo contracts for 12 months to pull customers over. The services officially ended on December 31, 2025.

So when you see older “Yotpo vs Klaviyo” articles comparing email automation feature for feature, just ignore them. That comparison doesn’t exist in 2026.

Yotpo is no longer an all-in-one platform. What’s left is a genuinely strong reviews-and-loyalty platform.

Most brands I advise now run Klaviyo for messaging and Yotpo (or a cheaper alternative) for reviews and loyalty. If you’re wondering whether you can skip one, I’ll get to that.

What Yotpo actually is in 2026

Yotpo reviews and loyalty platform homepage

Yotpo is now a focused Reviews, Loyalty, and Referrals platform. Not a full marketing suite, not an email tool, not an SMS tool. Just retention.

And honestly? The focus has made the product better at what’s left. Their AI moderation handles review quality at scale. Photo and video reviews are collected through smart post-purchase flows.

Google Shopping syndication pushes star ratings right into search results, which drives cheap, qualified traffic. On-site Q&A turns product pages into mini-FAQ hubs.

The loyalty side is the one most brands sleep on. Yotpo gives you points, VIP tiers, referral links, and reward rules, all stitched together with review behavior.

A customer leaves a photo review, earns 50 points, hits Gold tier, and gets free shipping. That kind of loop is hard to build from scratch.

Where Yotpo still gets criticism is pricing;

  • The Starter plan is $79/month for up to 500 orders.
  • The Pro plan jumps to $169-$199/month.
  • Premium Loyalty alone starts at $799/month.

And if you want the full bundle (Reviews + Loyalty), you’re looking at a minimum of $368/month per some third-party estimates, rising to $1,198/month for Premium. That’s serious money for an SMB.

What Klaviyo actually is in 2026

Klaviyo email and SMS marketing platform

Klaviyo is the default email and SMS platform for ecommerce. Period. If you’re on Shopify and you’re doing any kind of lifecycle marketing, you’re either using Klaviyo or you’ve made a specific decision not to.

What makes it sticky is the data. Klaviyo calls itself a B2C CRM, not just an email tool, and it backs that up. Every purchase, every browse, every abandoned cart, every SMS reply feeds into one customer profile.

Predictive analytics forecasts customer lifetime value, churn risk, and the next likely purchase date. I’ve seen brands run abandoned cart flows that recover 15-25% of lost revenue purely because the segmentation is that good.

The flip side is pricing. Klaviyo moved to active-profile billing in February 2025. That means every contact in your account counts toward the tier, engaged or not, subscribed or not.

Don’t clean your list, watch your bill climb automatically. At 10,000 profiles, Klaviyo’s Email plan sits around $175/month; at 50,000, it’s near $790/month. Add SMS credits on top.

Klaviyo also launched its own Reviews product in 2024, and it’s still being built out.

Honest take: it’s fine for Shopify brands that want reviews inside their existing Klaviyo account. It’s nowhere near Yotpo or a dedicated review platform in terms of depth, moderation, or display widgets. Not yet.

Where WiserReview fits in

WiserReview

WiserReview handles the reviews side of this stack. We help ecommerce brands collect product reviews through email, SMS, WhatsApp, and QR codes, then display them across product pages, landing pages, and Google.

AI moderation catches spam and low-quality reviews. Widgets are mobile-friendly out of the box, with 18+ layouts with text, photo, and video support.

Where we fit: if you’re on WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, or a custom build, we’re purpose-built for you.

We’re not trying to replace Klaviyo for email. We integrate with Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Omnisend, and Zapier, so review data flows into your existing email automations.

Where we don’t fit: if you’re running a points-based loyalty program with VIP tiers, we don’t have that. We integrate with dedicated loyalty tools but don’t build our own.

And we deprioritized Shopify specifically because the Shopify review app market is saturated. If you’re Shopify-first and you want reviews plus loyalty in one bundle, Yotpo makes more sense.

Our pricing starts with free plans, and paid plans begin at $19/month. That’s a tenth of what Yotpo’s Starter costs. For smaller stores or brands that just want clean, fast review widgets without a full retention suite, that math works.

Core features compared (2026 reality)

Yotpo vs Klaviyo Core features compared

Let me go category by category on what each one actually does well now.

Product reviews and UGC

Yotpo: What sets Yotpo apart is how flexible the display side has become. Brands can publish customer photos, videos, star ratings, and written reviews across product pages, landing pages, and paid ads without manually moving content around. Their visual UGC galleries help brands reuse customer content as social proof, especially for fashion, beauty, and lifestyle products.

Klaviyo: They launched Klaviyo Reviews as an add-on in 2024. It’s serviceable, tightly integrated with Klaviyo data, and fine if you’re a Shopify brand already on Klaviyo and don’t want another tool. But it’s newer, thinner on moderation and display options, and mostly useful because it feeds review data into your email flows.

WiserReview: Purpose-built for reviews. AI moderation, 18+ widgets, photo and video support, and Google sync. The gap we fill is affordability and non-Shopify coverage. If you’re on WooCommerce or BigCommerce and Yotpo’s pricing feels like overkill, this is the lane for you.

Who wins: Yotpo if you’re on Shopify and your budget isn’t tight. WiserReview if you’re not on Shopify or you want the same outcome at a fraction of the cost. Klaviyo only if you want reviews inside your existing Klaviyo setup.

Email marketing

Yotpo: Discontinued.

Klaviyo: Industry standard. Predictive analytics (churn risk, CLV, next purchase date), advanced segmentation, AI-generated subject lines, and a flow builder that handles welcome series, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, win-back, all out of the box. Deep Shopify integration means real-time data sync.

WiserReview: Not our lane. We integrate with Klaviyo, so your review data shows up in their flows. Think “customer left a 5-star review → trigger a thank-you email + refer-a-friend offer” kind of automations.

Who wins: Klaviyo, by default. If you used to run Yotpo Email, you’ve already been pushed to Attentive, Omnisend, or Klaviyo. Most brands I’ve talked to picked Klaviyo.

Loyalty and referrals

Yotpo: This is where they have a real value now. Points for purchases, reviews, referrals. VIP tiers with custom rewards. Referral links with built-in tracking. All connected to review behavior. Pro loyalty plan is $199/month.

Klaviyo: No loyalty program. None. They integrate with Smile.io, LoyaltyLion, and others, but it’s not native.

WiserReview: Same, no native loyalty. We integrate with loyalty tools.

Who wins: Yotpo, by a mile. If loyalty is a revenue driver for you, nothing else in this comparison competes.

SMS marketing

Yotpo: Discontinued. The old Yotpo SMS customer base went to Attentive for enterprise and Omnisend for SMB.

Klaviyo: Solid SMS, credit-based pricing, two-way conversations, unified flows with email. Fair warning: SMS credits pile up fast, especially in US markets where each message is roughly $0.01-$0.015.

WiserReview: We use SMS only for review requests, not for marketing campaigns.

Who wins: Klaviyo for marketing SMS. If SMS is your primary channel, Attentive is worth a look too.

Data and segmentation

Yotpo: Strong within its own domain (review and loyalty data), but you’re pushing that data out to another tool for the actual marketing. The Klaviyo-Yotpo integration handles this well.

Klaviyo: This is the single best thing about Klaviyo. Every event, every purchase, every pageview becomes a segment filter. Predictive models layer on top. “Customers likely to churn in the next 14 days who haven’t opened an email in 30 days” is a segment you can build in three clicks.

Who wins: Klaviyo, with Yotpo data feeding in for the full picture.

Pricing breakdown (verified April 2026)

Here’s what each actually costs. I pulled these from the vendor pricing pages and cross-checked with third-party reviewers.

Tier Yotpo (Reviews) Klaviyo WiserReview
Free Up to 50 orders/mo Up to 250 profiles, 500 emails/mo, 150 SMS credits 10 review requests/month
Starter $79/mo (up to 500 orders) $20/mo (500 profiles, 5K emails) $19/mo (1000 review requests)
Growth / Pro $169/mo (Pro) ~$175/mo at 10K profiles (Email) $31/mo (5K invites)
Premium / Scale Custom (Reviews Premium) ~$790/mo at 50K profiles Custom
Loyalty add-on $199/mo Pro, $799/mo Premium Not available (integrates only) Via integrations
SMS Discontinued +$15/mo bundle, credit-based Included for review requests

Real-world total cost if you run both Yotpo and Klaviyo on a mid-sized store (10K Klaviyo profiles + Yotpo Reviews Pro + Loyalty Pro): roughly $150 Klaviyo + $169 Yotpo Reviews + $199 Yotpo Loyalty = $518/month.

That’s the price of the full retention stack most brands run.

If you swap Yotpo Reviews for WiserReview at the same volume: roughly $150 Klaviyo + $19 WiserReview Pro = $169/month, plus a separate loyalty tool if you need one.

That gap is real. Whether Yotpo’s deeper integration is worth the premium depends on how critical loyalty programs are to your revenue.

Should you use Yotpo AND Klaviyo together?

Honestly, yes, for most mid-sized Shopify brands. Here’s the stack that shows up over and over:

  • Klaviyo for all email and SMS marketing, behavioral flows, and segmentation.
  • Yotpo for product reviews, photo/video UGC, and loyalty + referrals.
  • The Yotpo-Klaviyo integration syncs review data and loyalty tier data into Klaviyo segments.

That setup lets you do things like “send a thank-you flow to customers who left a 5-star review with a photo” or “offer 2X points this weekend, but only to Silver tier customers who haven’t purchased in 30 days.”

You can’t get that depth running either tool alone.

If you’re running WooCommerce or BigCommerce, swap Yotpo for WiserReview on the reviews side and add a standalone loyalty tool (Smile.io, LoyaltyLion) if you need that layer.

The pattern is the same: one tool owns messaging, one owns reviews, optionally one owns loyalty. Never try to make one tool do all three well, nothing does.

Who should pick what

Yotpo vs Klaviyo vs WiserReview

Pick Klaviyo if…

  • You need email and SMS marketing (this is the default)
  • You’re on Shopify and want deep predictive analytics
  • You already migrated off Yotpo Email in late 2025 and just need a new home
  • Advanced segmentation is core to your marketing strategy
  • You’re fine paying more as your list grows, because your list is driving revenue

Pick Yotpo if…

  • You’re on Shopify and want reviews + loyalty + referrals in one platform
  • Loyalty programs are a real revenue driver for you (not just a nice-to-have)
  • You have a budget for $200-800+/month in retention tooling
  • You want Google Shopping review syndication handled for you
  • Visual UGC (photos, videos) is central to your brand

Pick WiserReview if…

  • You’re on WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, or custom
  • Yotpo’s $79+/month Starter feels steep for what you need
  • You want clean review collection and display without a full retention suite
  • You already have (or plan to add) a separate loyalty tool
  • You’re setting up reviews for the first time and want to be live in minutes

Run both Klaviyo + Yotpo if…

  • You’re a serious Shopify DTC brand doing meaningful revenue
  • Both messaging and loyalty are revenue levers
  • Your CAC is high enough that retention tooling pays for itself
  • You want the deepest possible customer profile stitching review + loyalty + email data

Common mistakes to avoid

Common mistakes to avoid

A few patterns I’ve seen among store owners during the Yotpo pivot.

Waiting to migrate off Yotpo Email: If you were on Yotpo Email or SMS, you already had to move. If somehow you’re still reading old flows that aren’t firing, that’s why. Check your automations today.

Assuming Klaviyo Reviews replaces Yotpo, it’s good for tight Shopify+Klaviyo stacks. It’s not at Yotpo’s level on moderation, display, or syndication. Don’t rip out Yotpo Reviews without first testing Klaviyo Reviews on a small product line.

Paying for Yotpo’s full suite when you don’t need loyalty: If you just want reviews and you don’t run a points program, you’re overpaying. Either drop to Yotpo Reviews standalone or switch to a cheaper review tool.

Not cleaning your Klaviyo list: Active-profile billing punishes bloat. Suppress unengaged contacts quarterly or your bill creeps up without any new revenue to show for it.

Trying to do loyalty in email alone: Klaviyo can track “VIP customers” as a segment, but that’s not the same as running a points program with tiers and rewards. If loyalty matters, use a dedicated loyalty tool, whether that’s Yotpo, Smile.io, or LoyaltyLion.

Wrap up

The “Yotpo vs Klaviyo” question doesn’t really exist in 2026 the way it did in 2024. Yotpo is now a reviews-and-loyalty platform. Klaviyo is the email and SMS leader. Most serious ecommerce brands run both.

If you’re reading this because you’re choosing one for the first time, pick Klaviyo for messaging, then decide separately whether you need Yotpo’s loyalty depth or whether a leaner reviews tool (like WiserReview for non-Shopify stores) gets the job done.

If you’re reading this because your old Yotpo Email flows stopped firing, that’s the December 2025 shutdown. Move to Klaviyo, Omnisend, or Attentive, and keep Yotpo (or switch) for reviews and loyalty.

Pick the best-of-breed for each layer, integrate them via Shopify, and let data flow between tools. That’s the stack that actually works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this topic

Yes. Yotpo officially ended Email and SMS services on December 31, 2025, after announcing the sunset in August 2025. The company now focuses only on Reviews, Loyalty, and Referrals. Existing Yotpo Email and SMS customers were migrated to Attentive (for enterprise accounts), Omnisend (for self-serve brands), or Klaviyo (which offered a 12-month price match).
Yes, absolutely. Yotpo's Reviews, Loyalty, and Referrals products are fully operational and actively being developed, with AI moderation, photo and video reviews, VIP tiers, and Google Shopping syndication. What's gone is only the Email and SMS marketing products.
For most serious Shopify brands, yes. Klaviyo handles email and SMS with predictive analytics and behavioral segmentation. Yotpo handles reviews, loyalty, and referrals. The two integrate natively through Shopify, so customer data syncs both ways. That lets you build flows like "thank-you email for customers who left a 5-star review" or "2X points weekend for Silver tier only."
For Shopify-only stores, Judge.me or Loox work at lower price points. For WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Wix, Squarespace, or custom stores, WiserReview starts free and paid plans begin at $9/month, a fraction of Yotpo's $79/month Starter. Klaviyo Reviews is included if you're already on Klaviyo's Email plan, though the feature set is lighter than dedicated review tools.
No. Klaviyo does not offer a native loyalty or rewards program. It integrates with third-party loyalty tools like Smile.io and LoyaltyLion, but there's no built-in points system, VIP tiers, or referral program. If loyalty is a revenue driver for your store, Yotpo fills that gap where Klaviyo doesn't.
