Here’s the update most people haven’t caught yet: Yotpo and Klaviyo aren’t really competitors anymore.
In August 2025, Yotpo announced it was killing its native Email and SMS products. The shutdown finished on December 31, 2025.
That’s not a rumor; it’s in their CEO’s own statement and covered by Ecommerce North America. Yotpo now focuses only on Reviews, Loyalty, and Referrals. Klaviyo still owns email and SMS for ecommerce.
Almost every brand I talk to still asks, “Yotpo or Klaviyo?” like it’s 2024. It isn’t.
The honest answer in 2026 is closer to “pick Klaviyo for messaging, pick Yotpo for reviews and loyalty, and yes, most serious brands run both.”
Let me show you why, with real pricing, the features that actually matter, and where I’d put my money if I were starting fresh.
The big 2026 update: Yotpo exited email and SMS

On August 5, 2025, Yotpo CEO Tomer Tagrin sent a message to merchants announcing that Email and SMS would sunset by the end of 2025.
Around 200 employees were laid off. Attentive became the preferred migration partner for enterprise accounts.
Omnisend handled the self-serve brands. Klaviyo offered to price-match Yotpo contracts for 12 months to pull customers over. The services officially ended on December 31, 2025.
So when you see older “Yotpo vs Klaviyo” articles comparing email automation feature for feature, just ignore them. That comparison doesn’t exist in 2026.
Yotpo is no longer an all-in-one platform. What’s left is a genuinely strong reviews-and-loyalty platform.
Most brands I advise now run Klaviyo for messaging and Yotpo (or a cheaper alternative) for reviews and loyalty. If you’re wondering whether you can skip one, I’ll get to that.

What Yotpo actually is in 2026

Yotpo is now a focused Reviews, Loyalty, and Referrals platform. Not a full marketing suite, not an email tool, not an SMS tool. Just retention.
And honestly? The focus has made the product better at what’s left. Their AI moderation handles review quality at scale. Photo and video reviews are collected through smart post-purchase flows.
Google Shopping syndication pushes star ratings right into search results, which drives cheap, qualified traffic. On-site Q&A turns product pages into mini-FAQ hubs.
The loyalty side is the one most brands sleep on. Yotpo gives you points, VIP tiers, referral links, and reward rules, all stitched together with review behavior.
A customer leaves a photo review, earns 50 points, hits Gold tier, and gets free shipping. That kind of loop is hard to build from scratch.
Where Yotpo still gets criticism is pricing;
- The Starter plan is $79/month for up to 500 orders.
- The Pro plan jumps to $169-$199/month.
- Premium Loyalty alone starts at $799/month.
And if you want the full bundle (Reviews + Loyalty), you’re looking at a minimum of $368/month per some third-party estimates, rising to $1,198/month for Premium. That’s serious money for an SMB.
What Klaviyo actually is in 2026

Klaviyo is the default email and SMS platform for ecommerce. Period. If you’re on Shopify and you’re doing any kind of lifecycle marketing, you’re either using Klaviyo or you’ve made a specific decision not to.
What makes it sticky is the data. Klaviyo calls itself a B2C CRM, not just an email tool, and it backs that up. Every purchase, every browse, every abandoned cart, every SMS reply feeds into one customer profile.
Predictive analytics forecasts customer lifetime value, churn risk, and the next likely purchase date. I’ve seen brands run abandoned cart flows that recover 15-25% of lost revenue purely because the segmentation is that good.
The flip side is pricing. Klaviyo moved to active-profile billing in February 2025. That means every contact in your account counts toward the tier, engaged or not, subscribed or not.
Don’t clean your list, watch your bill climb automatically. At 10,000 profiles, Klaviyo’s Email plan sits around $175/month; at 50,000, it’s near $790/month. Add SMS credits on top.
Klaviyo also launched its own Reviews product in 2024, and it’s still being built out.
Honest take: it’s fine for Shopify brands that want reviews inside their existing Klaviyo account. It’s nowhere near Yotpo or a dedicated review platform in terms of depth, moderation, or display widgets. Not yet.

Yotpo: What sets Yotpo apart is how flexible the display side has become. Brands can publish customer photos, videos, star ratings, and written reviews across product pages, landing pages, and paid ads without manually moving content around. Their visual UGC galleries help brands reuse customer content as social proof, especially for fashion, beauty, and lifestyle products.
Klaviyo: They launched Klaviyo Reviews as an add-on in 2024. It’s serviceable, tightly integrated with Klaviyo data, and fine if you’re a Shopify brand already on Klaviyo and don’t want another tool. But it’s newer, thinner on moderation and display options, and mostly useful because it feeds review data into your email flows.

Yotpo: Discontinued.
Klaviyo: Industry standard. That gap is real. Whether Yotpo’s deeper integration is worth the premium depends on how critical loyalty programs are to your revenue.
Should you use Yotpo AND Klaviyo together?
Honestly, yes, for most mid-sized Shopify brands. Here’s the stack that shows up over and over:
- Klaviyo for all email and SMS marketing, behavioral flows, and segmentation.
- Yotpo for product reviews, photo/video UGC, and loyalty + referrals.
- The Yotpo-Klaviyo integration syncs review data and loyalty tier data into Klaviyo segments.
That setup lets you do things like “send a thank-you flow to customers who left a 5-star review with a photo” or “offer 2X points this weekend, but only to Silver tier customers who haven’t purchased in 30 days.”
You can’t get that depth running either tool alone.

Common mistakes to avoid

A few patterns I’ve seen among store owners during the Yotpo pivot.
Waiting to migrate off Yotpo Email: If you were on Yotpo Email or SMS, you already had to move. If somehow you’re still reading old flows that aren’t firing, that’s why. Check your automations today.
Assuming Klaviyo Reviews replaces Yotpo, it’s good for tight Shopify+Klaviyo stacks. It’s not at Yotpo’s level on moderation, display, or syndication. Don’t rip out Yotpo Reviews without first testing Klaviyo Reviews on a small product line.
Paying for Yotpo’s full suite when you don’t need loyalty: If you just want reviews and you don’t run a points program, you’re overpaying. Either drop to Yotpo Reviews standalone or switch to a cheaper review tool.
Not cleaning your Klaviyo list: Active-profile billing punishes bloat. Suppress unengaged contacts quarterly or your bill creeps up without any new revenue to show for it.
Trying to do loyalty in email alone: Klaviyo can track “VIP customers” as a segment, but that’s not the same as running a points program with tiers and rewards. If loyalty matters, use a dedicated loyalty tool, whether that’s Yotpo, Smile.io, or LoyaltyLion.
