Most product pages keep reviews near the bottom, several screens below the add-to-cart button. Shoppers who decide before scrolling that far never see the proof you worked to collect.
You don’t have to move the whole review section to fix that. A short, tappable preview of what buyers say, placed near the price, can do the job.
Below, you’ll see how the format works, where it belongs on the page, how to set it up, and how to test whether it lifts your add-to-cart rate.
Key takeaways
- AI review stories turn a product’s reviews into swipeable cards behind one badge near the top of the page.
- They suit products with 10+ detailed reviews and mostly mobile traffic.
- Your full review section stays. The stories are a preview of it.
- Judge them with a split test on add-to-cart rate, not on how many shoppers tap.
What are AI review stories?
AI review stories are a review widget that turns product reviews into swipeable story cards, opened from a badge near the top of the product page.

The badge sits near the title or price, with a line like “See what shoppers say” and the number of reviews behind it. One tap opens the stories full screen.
Each card shows one AI review highlight: a standout review, the most mentioned themes, the score, or a short summary. It’s the Instagram-style story format, applied to reviews.
The stories don’t replace your review section. Shoppers who want every detail can still scroll down, filter by photos, and read it all.
You can try a live, editable version on the AI review stories widget page without signing up.
Why do shoppers miss reviews at the bottom of the page?
Shoppers miss reviews at the bottom of the page because the review section often sits several screens below the price, and a shopper who leaves sooner never sees it.

On a phone, the gap’s even longer. The description, size guide, shipping details, and related products all stack in one column before the first review appears.
Phones also carry most of the traffic. Smartphones generate 75 to 78% of ecommerce traffic worldwide, according to our mobile commerce statistics.
The star rating beside the title doesn’t close that gap. It gives a score, but it can’t tell anyone whether the jeans run small or the serum stings.
That detail is what shoppers come for. The average shopper reads about 10 reviews before feeling ready to buy, per our social proof statistics.
In the same data, 72% of consumers trust reviews more than a brand’s product description. So the strongest product page social proof often sits furthest from the buy button.
How do AI review stories work on a product page?
AI review stories work by reading a product’s reviews, picking standout reviews and recurring themes, and packing them into a short sequence of cards behind one badge.

From the shopper’s side, it plays out in four steps:
- The badge shows near the top of the page, with reviewer avatars and the number of reviews summarized.
- A tap opens the stories full screen, starting with the first card in your chosen order.
- Progress bars run across the top, and the shopper can pause, go back, or skip ahead.
- Closing the stories returns the shopper to the same spot on the page.
You choose which cards show and in what order. Every option is covered in the setup steps below.
How are AI review stories different from star ratings and AI summaries?
Star ratings show a score, an AI review summary condenses feedback into a paragraph, and AI review stories turn top reviews and themes into tappable cards.
| Widget | What shoppers get | Usual spot | Effort for the shopper | Limit to know |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Star rating badge | An average score and review count | Next to the product title | None | Says nothing about fit, quality, or problems |
| AI review summary | One short paragraph on what buyers liked and disliked | Inside the review section | Low | Often sits as low on the page as the reviews |
| Full review section | Every review, with filters for photos and ratings | Lower on the page | High | Easy to miss on mobile |
| AI review stories | Standout reviews, top themes, and the score as swipeable cards | Near the title or price | Low (tap and swipe) | Needs 10+ reviews per product in WiserReview |
These widgets don’t compete. One way to combine them: star rating by the title, the stories badge right under it, and the full review section further down.
If you’d rather show the paragraph version, our guide to the AI review summary covers how it works and where it fits.

Start free trial →Where should you place AI review stories on a product page?
Place AI review stories above the fold, close to the product title, star rating, or price, so shoppers see the badge before the add-to-cart decision.

The badge appears wherever you paste its code, so placement is up to you. Three spots make sense:
- Right under the star rating, so the score and the details sit together
- Next to or just under the price, where shoppers weigh the cost
- Above the size picker on apparel, where fit doubts start
Once it’s placed, check the first screen on a real phone. If the badge only shows after a scroll, move it higher.
Give it some room, too. A badge squeezed between a discount banner, a countdown timer, and a chat bubble is easy to miss.
Which products get the most from AI review stories?
AI review stories help most on products with at least 10 reviews, detailed buyer feedback, open questions about fit or results, and mostly mobile traffic.

The 10-review floor is a firm rule in WiserReview. Stories only show on products with 10 or more reviews, so a new launch won’t display them yet.
Good fits share one trait: shoppers have a specific doubt that reviews answer better than your product copy.
- Apparel and footwear, where sizing is the usual worry
- Skincare and beauty, where shoppers want results on skin like theirs
- Supplements and snacks, where taste and results matter
- Home goods, where shoppers wonder if it looks like the photos
Low-cost basics like phone cables or batteries are a weaker fit. The purchase is small, so most shoppers don’t need much convincing.
Review quality matters as much as count. Stories built from one-word reviews have little to show, so ask buyers for detail and photos.
Our guide on how to get photo reviews covers the request side.
How to set up AI review stories in WiserReview
AI review stories in WiserReview are set up in four parts: create an account, open the widget, customize the badge and story cards, then add two code snippets to your product page.
Step 1: Sign up for WiserReview
Go to the WiserReview homepage and click Start free trial, or sign up for WiserReview directly. Every plan starts with a 7-day free trial.
The AI Story widget is part of the Pro + AI plan, at $31/mo for up to 1,000 orders.

If you’re moving from another review app, import your existing reviews first, so more of your products clear the 10-review mark the stories need.
Step 2: Open AI Review Stories
Log in to your WiserReview dashboard and click Widgets in the left menu.
Under Product-specific review widgets, find the AI Review Stories card and click Configure. The editor opens with settings on the left and a live preview on the right.

Step 3: Set the colors
Open Color to match the badge to your store. You can set the badge background, title, subtitle, and AI icon colors.
The same panel controls the border (size, style, and radius) and the shadow, so the badge can sit flat or stand out on the page.

Step 4: Choose which reviews feed the stories
Open Filter Reviews. You can filter by review source and by review tags, and Advanced filters give you finer control.
Keep some balance in what you let through. Stories built only from glowing praise read like an ad.

Step 5: Write the badge text
Open Layout. Under Badge on your page, set the title shoppers see before they tap. The default, “See what shoppers say,” works well.
Below it are two subtitles, one for products with 0 to 1 review and one for 2 or more. Each can pull in the live review count.
The Show branding box decides whether the WiserReview mark appears on the badge.

Step 6: Pick and order the story cards
Open Stories and tick the cards you want to show:
- Reviews analyzed, the number of reviews the stories draw on
- Most mentioned, the themes buyers bring up most
- The score, the product’s overall rating
- Top review 1, 2, and 3, three standout reviews
Drag the cards to change their order. Lead with the one that answers the biggest doubt, like the score for a top-rated product or the most mentioned themes for apparel.

Step 7: Control the AI summary
Open AI Summary to control the AI-written summary that appears inside the stories.
Read the summary on your best-selling products before you go live, so you know exactly what shoppers will see.
Step 8: Choose the widget language
Open Language and pick the widget language from the dropdown.
If your store runs separate language paths like /en/, /fr/, or /de/, open the multi-language option to set the widget for each one.

To translate the review text itself, use AI review translation on the Pro plans.
Step 9: Add custom CSS or JavaScript (optional)
If your theme needs styling the settings can’t cover, open Custom Code.
Tick Enable custom CSS or Enable custom JS, paste your code, and click Save.

Step 10: Preview the stories and save
Click the badge in the preview to open the full story experience. Switch on Real data to see your own reviews instead of sample content.
Check the mobile preview too, since most shoppers will see the stories on a phone. When it looks right, click Save.

Step 11: Add the pixel and widget code to your site
Click Install at the top of the editor. The Embed your review widget window shows two snippets, each with a copy button:
- The WiserReview pixel goes before the closing </body> tag. Skip it if the pixel is already on your site.
- The widget code goes where the badge should appear on your product page.
In the widget code, replace SET_YOUR_PRODUCT_ID_HERE with your product ID. Each product page has to pass its own ID, or the stories won’t load the right reviews.
![]()
Publish the change, then open a product with 10 or more reviews on desktop and on your phone. Tap the badge and click through every card.
If the badge doesn’t show, use Debug on site in the install window, or follow the full AI review stories setup guide.

How do you know if AI review stories are working?
Test AI review stories with a split test that compares product pages with the widget against pages without it, judged on add-to-cart rate rather than open rate.

Open rate tells you shoppers noticed the badge. It doesn’t tell you the stories changed a single decision.
Be wary of comparing shoppers who opened the stories with shoppers who didn’t. A shopper who taps “See what shoppers say” was already leaning toward buying.
That comparison measures the shopper’s interest, not the widget’s effect. A fair test needs two groups that differ only by the badge.
- Split traffic, or a set of similar products, into a group with the badge and a group without it.
- Keep prices, images, and copy the same in both groups.
- Run the test for at least two weeks and a few hundred sessions per group.
- Compare add-to-cart rate by device first, then orders.

Reviews can’t sell if shoppers never see them. When the best ones sit at the bottom of the page, a quick visit on a phone won’t reach them.
AI review stories close that distance with one badge and a few cards. Start with busy products that already have detailed reviews, and keep the badge on the first screen.
Then test it the fair way. If add-to-cart rate moves, roll it out across the catalog. If it doesn’t, you’ve spent a few weeks and learned something about your shoppers.
